What Is S925 Sterling Silver?

Before caring for your Purmoon jewelry, it helps to know what you are wearing.

S925 sterling silver is made with 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals to give the jewelry strength for everyday wear. Pure silver is naturally soft, so sterling silver is the better choice for pieces you can actually wear daily.

At Purmoon, we use S925 sterling silver, not brass-based silver-plated jewelry.

Many of our pieces are finished with rhodium plating, which gives the jewelry a brighter shine and an extra layer of protection. It helps the silver look clean, polished, and more resistant to everyday tarnish.

You may also find the S925 stamp on our sterling silver pieces, showing that they are made with genuine sterling silver.

Sterling Silver VS Silver-Plated Jewelry

S925 Sterling Silver means the jewelry itself is made with real sterling silver.

Silver-plated jewelry usually means a base metal, often brass, is covered with a thin layer of silver on the outside.

That difference matters.

Sterling silver can be cleaned, cared for, and worn for a long time. Silver-plated jewelry may lose its surface color more easily once the outer layer wears down.

Does Sterling Silver Tarnish?

Yes, sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time. This is normal for real S925 silver and does not mean your jewelry is fake or low quality.

To keep your Purmoon shine clean and bright, we recommend removing your jewelry before:

  • Applying perfume, lotion, sunscreen, or hairspray
  • Exercising or sleeping
  • Cleaning with household chemicals

How to Clean S925 Silver Jewelry

A Simple Clean in 3 Steps

1. Wipe Gently
Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints, skin oils, and daily marks.
2. Clean Softly When Needed
For deeper cleaning, mix a little mild soap with warm water. Use a soft toothbrush to gently clean around the stone and setting.
3. Dry Completely
Rinse with lukewarm water and dry fully with a clean soft cloth before storing.

Avoid harsh silver cleaners, strong chemicals, and rough polishing cloths on moissanite settings or delicate details.

For Necklaces

Gently wipe the pendant and chain after wearing, especially around the clasp and stone setting.
If your necklace has been exposed to sweat, perfume, or lotion, clean it softly with warm water and dry it completely before placing it back in its pouch or box.

A quick wipe after wearing helps keep your necklace looking polished and ready for tomorrow.

For Studs & Earrings

Earrings sit close to your skin, so they naturally collect more oils and daily buildup.

After wearing, gently wipe the posts and backs with a soft cloth. If needed, rinse with lukewarm water and dry thoroughly before storing.

For hygiene and comfort, we recommend keeping your earrings clean, dry, and stored separately.

Store Each Piece Separately

When you are not wearing your jewelry, keep each piece in its own pouch or box.This helps prevent scratches, tangles, and unnecessary rubbing between pieces.Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, humidity, and bathroom moisture.
